The People's Court

November 27, 2022

Series: King of Kings

The Kings of Israel opened up their schedules to administer justice for the public - a sort of ancient Israel version of The People’s Court. King Solomon is asked to decide which of two prostitutes is the true mother of the baby. Solomon’s method (I will let you read for yourself) forces a decision and the difference is that the true mother sacrifices her own interest for the interest of the baby. Willingness to sacrifice reveals what we love - that’s the Munger theme this weekend!

The Extra Mile: Solomon and opulence go hand in hand. As we read in 1 Kings chapters 2-5 take a look at the extravagance that goes into the Temple of Jerusalem and Solomon’s palace. Remember too, this wealth comes from somewhere - namely taxes. After taking that in look at Jesus’ teaching - “Consider how the wild flowers grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you, not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today, and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, how much more will he clothe you—you of little faith! - Luke 12:27-28. Jesus leads a different kind of Kingdom.

Scripture: 1 Kings 3:16-27
