Director of Building Services  (full-time) 

Use your leadership and facilities experience to manage and oversee all building operations at HPUMC's main campus (including Child Development Program), Biggers recreation building and Munger Place extension campus, to ensure all properties are kept in good condition and are functioning efficiently, to facilitate the work of the church in spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ.  This position supervises maintenance/custodial staff and also functions hands-on regarding computerized building and security systems.

Description:

HPUMC is one of the largest United Methodist churches in the country, with over 13,000 members.  Each Sunday from 8:30 a.m. - noon, our main building is bustling with members and visitors attending any of 8 worship services in 4 different venues as well as Sunday school classes for all ages.  On other days, our schedule is full with meetings, classes, Bible studies and other events, and things are always happening with our church staff of over 100 and our full-time daycare/preschool programs.  Our fitness/recreation building across the street stays busy with classes, sports practices, workouts, free play and birthday parties.  In addition, our one-year-old Munger Place extension campus in Old East Dallas is active and growing on Sundays and other days during the week.

The Director of Building Services is responsible for managing and directing all facilities operations and administration for the main building, fitness/recreation building and extension campus, totaling over 300,000 square feet.  This includes supervision of approximately 15-person maintenance/custodial staff engaged in cleaning, repair, maintenance and room set-ups.  Also includes selection and management of contractors in security, construction, landscaping, and building supply operations, plus administration of parking in cooperation with SMU.  Manages and operates all building-related systems and software applications, including HVAC, security cameras, lighting, door locking, etc.  Plans and directs all facility projects, securing bids and overseeing labor process.  Manages workers' compensation, property and liability insurance, working with insurance representatives and claimants, and taking preventive and corrective action to improve safety.

We Require:

A Christian who is dedicated to leading a life that becomes the Gospel and who is comfortable working in a United Methodist church environment, with the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in related field strongly preferred
  • At least 5 years experience in facilities management of similar-size property; church experience a plus
  • Significant supervisory experience as well as experience managing a department or operation
  • Proficiency with computer applications, preferably building-related, as well as email, MS Word and Excel
  • Strong mechanical/technical aptitude and hands-on facilities/mechanical experience preferred
  • Professional appearance and demeanor
  • Good interpersonal, organizational and communication skills
  • High degree of initiative and accountability
  • Good vision and hearing, ability to lift up to 50 pounds and able to move about easily in various settings, including heights
  • Good driving record and clean criminal history

Working Hours:  This full-time position works Sunday mornings as well as most weekdays
